Areas of interest
Didim
Didim is a rapidly growing holiday resort with beautiful beaches, ancient towns, culture and
climate attracting tourists from all over the world. It is located some 20 minutes away from
Akbuk and offers all sorts of shopping opportunities with many modern shops and markets to
explore. The biggest and best place for a weekly shopping trip is Gima in Didim.
In addition, the 'Temple of Apollo', a Turkish historic site, is well worth a visit, now having been
excavated and partially restored. It is probably the most impressive at sunset, setting off the
scale of its impressive columns. The great snake-adorned head of Medusa, unfortunately, now
cracked after falling to the ground, possibly from an earthquake several centuries ago, still does
provide a wonderful photo opportunity.
A new marina is being built in Didim and there are plans for further development to include sea
sports, golf course and much more.
Altinkum
Altinkum is only 15 minutes from Akbuk and is a beach lovers paradise. Many of the beaches
are little more than private secluded bays. The main beach is a large bay of golden sand with
incredibly shallow, clear water, ideal for children.
The town is lively in the evening offering countless bars, restaurants, and nightclubs along the
main seafront promenade.
Around Altinkum, there are many things to keep you busy, from an Aqua Park just outside of
Altinkum, with local buses to and from, many local boat tours, including the local 5 island tour
and also day trips over to Bodrum which gives time to either soak up the sun or do some
serious shopping, or perhaps do some sightseeing.
Other Areas
There are numerous 'places of interest' within a couple of hours drive from the apartment. If
you prefer the comfort of a coach tour, Altinkum companies offer day trips to some of these
places including:
-Places of Historical Interest (Ephesus, House Of the Virgin, Priene, Miletos and Alinda)
-Places of Natural Interest (Dilek MilliParki near Kusadasi, Lake Bafa and Pamukale)
-Other Resorts nearby Kusadasi and Bodrum, including Bodrum Castle.
Closeby are the small villages of Yesilkent, Kazikli, Bozbuk and Denizkoy which are
relatively small in size but definitely worth exploring. Around the area lagoon area at Yesilkent,
Lizards, pelicans and flamingo's can be observed.
